Siting: The sculpture is located on the south side of a children's playground area. It is located on a concrete footing approximately 10' from a fenced in wading pool and 2' from the sidewalk adjacent to pool. There are two pine trees within 10' of the sculpture. The ground slopes slightly from the playground behind to the pool in front of the sculpture.

Description: The monument was dedicated to Hugo and Victoria Reid, the grantees of Rancho Santa Anita, 13,319 acres in 1841. Hugo Reid was a member of the Constitutional Convention in 1849 which brought statehood to California. The work was funded through the WPA Federal Art Project. The history and landmarks Division of the Women's Community Service Auxiliary of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and The Los Angeles County Department of Recreation Camps and Playgrounds (L.A. Times, 10/31/1937)

The sculpture is composed of a total of four tiers. Three tiers compose the vase which is integrated with the final tier composing the sculpture. The first tier is the concrete footing. The second tier is composed of a relief. In front, to the west, a man and a woman on horseback with dog in front; to the north, a figure in the center is picking something from cactus; on the east side there is a seated figure with mortar and pestle; and on the west, a seated woman with a bowl. The title and written description is located in pressed in lettering, on the third tier. The sculpture group is located on the top tier. It is composed of a standing figure group with the male in center back; the tallest female in a full length skirt and shawl on the proper left. There are two children, a boy on the proper right arm of the male and a girl adjacent to the female figure. The boy is holding a coiled rope in his proper right hand. A dog is located on the proper right side of the figure group behind the boy. The proper left arm of the adult [the report is unfinished]
