A Torch and a Quote from Virgil

South side of the base of the Tommy Trojan statue. The torch is one of the torches from the University seal, which was adopted in 1908. The three torches on the seal represent the arts, the sciences, and philosophy. Words from Virgil in Latin and English are carved beneath the torch:
"SEDIS UBI FATA QUIETAS OSTENDUNT ILLIC FAS REGNA RESURGERE TROJAE"
"HERE ARE PROVIDED SEATS OF MEDITATIVE JOY, WHERE SHALL AGAIN THE DESTINED REIGN OF TROY"
