Festival of Masks
Frank Romero, 1995. Mural. Purple Line - Wilshire/Normandie Station. Mural is 60 feet long, painted on curved aluminum panels. According to the artist, the work depicts the annual festival of masks along Wilshire Boulevard. The mural features a Chinese dragon, African masks, a Native American eagle dancer, a Korean traditional dancer, a calavera puppet, a marching band, and the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. Behind the figures can be seen such landmarks of Wilshire boulevard as the Craft and Folk Art Museum, the Brown Derby, the El Rey Theater, Bullock's Wilshire, and the May Company building.
