Gift to the county of Los Angeles to honor and perpetuate the memory of the discovery of American. Presented by the United Lodges of Southern California Order Sons of Italy in America. Dedicated on October 8, 1973.

Christopher Columbus. Born in Genoa, Italy, in 1451; died May 26, 1506, at the age of 55 in Valladolid, Spain; sailed to the New World under the coat of arms of Castile and Aragon, landed October 12, 1482 at the Isle of San Salvador in the West Indied; made three additional voyages to the western hemisphere in 1495, 1498, and 1502; now a legendary figure, among the world's immortals.
